An orthodontist is a dentist who has undertaken additional years of specialist university training focused solely on correcting the position of teeth and jaws. This additional training means orthodontists have particular expertise in diagnosing and treating complex bite and alignment issues.
Absolutely not! A significant proportion of our patients are adults. Many are surprised to learn that teeth can be moved safely and effectively at any age, provided the gums and supporting bone are healthy.
No referral is needed. You're welcome to contact us directly to book a consultation. While many of our patients come to us via their general dentist, you can self-refer at any time. If you do have a recent referral letter from your dentist, it's helpful to bring it along, but it's not a requirement.
Your initial consultation is a thorough, unhurried assessment with Dr Gullotta personally. We'll take clinical photos, review any existing X-rays, and carry out a full examination of your teeth, bite and jaw. At the end of the appointment, Dr Gullotta will walk you through his findings, explain the treatment options suited to your case, give you an estimate of treatment duration, and provide a personalised fee quote
Both braces and clear aligners move teeth, but they work in different ways, and the right choice depends on your individual case.
Braces use custom brackets bonded to each tooth, connected by a wire that guides movement precisely. Clear aligners are a series of removable trays worn over the teeth.
At Gullotta Orthodontics, we use LightForce - a 3D-printed custom bracket system that takes the precision of braces to a level traditional brackets simply can't match. Every bracket is designed specifically for your tooth anatomy, which means more efficient movement and, in many cases, a shorter treatment time.
LightForce is the world's first fully customised 3D-printed bracket system, and Gullotta Orthodontics is a Gold Coast provider. Unlike standard braces, which come in generic shapes and are adjusted to fit, LightForce brackets are digitally designed and printed for each individual tooth.
This means the bracket sits perfectly on your tooth from day one, forces are delivered more accurately, and treatment is often more efficient. It's the most advanced fixed appliance system currently available, and it's one of the reasons Dr Gullotta invested in it as precision matters when you're moving teeth.
Treatment fees vary depending on the complexity of your case, the type of treatment, and the estimated duration. As a guide, most comprehensive orthodontic treatments range from approximately $9,500 to $12,000. We provide a personalised, itemised fee quote at your consultation so you know exactly what's involved before making any decisions. There are no hidden costs, the fee we quote covers the full course of treatment, including all adjustments and your retainers at the end.
Yes, if your policy includes orthodontic extras cover. Most major health funds provide a benefit toward orthodontic treatment, though the amount varies significantly between funds and policies. We recommend contacting your health fund before your consultation to confirm your annual limit and whether any waiting period applies. We're happy to provide the item codes you'll need to check your entitlement.
Yes. We offer payment plans that allow you to spread the cost of treatment over the treatment period, with no interest charges. A deposit is required to commence treatment, and the balance is paid in regular installments. We understand that the cost of orthodontic treatment is a significant consideration for most families, and we aim to make the process as accessible and transparent as possible. Payment options are discussed in detail at your consultation.
Most orthodontic cases are completed within 12 to 24 months, though some more straightforward cases can be shorter and more complex situations may take longer. The duration depends on the amount of tooth movement required, the type of appliance used, and how well the teeth respond. One of the advantages of LightForce custom brackets is that because each bracket is designed specifically for your tooth, treatment can often be more efficient than with traditional braces. Dr Gullotta will give you a realistic treatment estimate at your consultation based on your individual situation.
Most patients are seen every 8–12 weeks during treatment. At Gullotta Orthodontics, we use advanced technology, including LightForce custom braces and DentalMonitoring, which means fewer in-office visits than traditional orthodontic treatment while still allowing us to closely monitor your progress.
If we need to see you sooner, we'll let you know and if you ever have a problem or something doesn't feel right, we're always happy to arrange a comfort visit.
Our LightForce Clear Braces are made from clear ceramic, allowing them to blend naturally with your teeth for a more discreet appearance. If you choose LightForce Metal Braces, they're smaller and more comfortable than traditional braces, giving a modern, streamlined look.
It's normal to experience some tenderness or pressure for the first few days after braces are fitted or after a wire adjustment. This is a sign the teeth are moving, and it typically settles within 48 to 72 hours. Most patients manage any discomfort with over-the-counter pain relief such as paracetamol or ibuprofen if needed. Soft foods for the first day or two also help. Ongoing pain is uncommon, if you're ever uncomfortable between appointments, our team is always available to help.
Yes. Regular dental check-ups and professional cleans are an important part of your orthodontic treatment. We recommend continuing to visit your dentist every six months, or more frequently if they advise. Your dentist will monitor your oral health, provide professional cleans, and address any dental concerns while we focus on straightening your teeth.
Yes, and this is one of the most important parts of your treatment. Once your braces are removed, teeth have a natural tendency to drift back toward their original position. Retainers hold everything in place while the bone and gum settle around the new tooth positions.
Patients are issued an initial set of clear night time retainers as part of your treatment at Gullotta Orthodontics and wear this removable retainer at night on an ongoing basis. Patients also receive a fixed metal retainer bonded behind the front teeth top and bottom.
If you lose or damage your retainers, don’t panic! Contact us as soon as possible so we can arrange a replacement. It’s important not to leave it too long, as your teeth can start to move without your retainers. Replacement retainers may incur an additional fee, depending on the circumstances.
